Pentacles: It's More than Money

This post also appears on my Ko-fi. Be sure to follow me across platforms to stay in touch with the latest.

Estimated read is 3 minutes

Pentacles have come up in a few readings and I wanted to share a short story and some recent thoughts on the coin-based imagery that is present in my deck.

A couple of months ago, I was reading for a friend. In all my readings, at the end, I always ask clients if they have any questions about the imagery or clarity needed on what was shared. This particular time, my friend asked “What do the stars mean on the coins?”

Let’s get into it.

Pictured is the Ace of Pentacles. It is associated with the start of a new beginning or opportunities, manifestations!

So, What Do the Stars Represent?

The general answer is that the stars represent pentacles. Pentacles are five-pointed stars that are the earthly element in the tarot deck.

The iconography present in my deck shows them as coins or money. This is the common association of pentacles. With all earthly elements anything physical is also associated with them. I see this suite in the deck as a sign to bring thoughts, feelings, and creative ideation into physical reality, world building.

The book, Inner Witch by Gabriella Herstik states that, “the pentacles as a suite reminds us of our basic physical needs.” In the book, A Little Bit of Tarot by Cassandra Eason, the Author states pentacles, “talk of the home, family, animals, financial matters and properties.”

I want to extend these definitions and say that beyond the physical realm, the “stars”, coins, or pentacles represent where we start to put our energy in order to make our dreams and desires a physical reality. A sort of form of manifestation, a buzzword that I hope to unpack in a future post.

Coins, pentacles, or these “stars” are more than money or material items. They are a challenge for you to bring your beliefs into the real living world that we experience. When you spend your coins or money, you are starting to place your faith in an object or experiences that serve you or your ideology in some way. The material objects and physical relationships you foster, say something about your beliefs and what you value.

Considerations when Drawing Pentacles, Coins, or Seeing Stars

There’s a common saying that everything is made of stardust. If this is true then we can saw that we are all connected in some way and that the relationship we have to what we surround ourselves with is more than physical, it’s spiritual.

If you want to start seeing pentacles and coins as more than physical but also as spiritual, here are some things to consider when you see coins/pentacles/stars in your tarot reading.

  • When you spend and receive, what world are you contributing to creating?

  • When you find yourself surrounded by your home, family, and relationships you’ve fostered IRL, how have financial aspects, privileges, and barriers helped or hindered the world that has materialized around you?

  • If you have an abundance of material items, a material girl if you will, where have these items come from and how do they take you to where you are going?

  • And just what world do you want to start to materialize or manifest?

In Closing

I hope this helps you in understanding pentacles as a suite in the tarot deck. If you find value in my posts I ask that you do the following:
